Which cable connector type do I need?

Modified on: Fri, 15 Nov, 2024 at 10:30 AM

This guide is designed to walk users through all of the basic cable connector types.

Anker mainly manufactures cables with combinations from these four different connector types: USB-A, Lightning, Micro USB, and USB-C.

USB-A                                                         Lightning

Micro USB                                                  USB-C

USB-A to Lightning

USB-A is still the most common connector type used to connect to power sources, such as laptops, power banks, wall chargers, and car chargers to both charge and sync your devices.

With USB-A to Lightning cables, you can power any of your Apple devices by plugging the cable into the USB-A port of any power source.

For example, the charger that is shown in the image below has two USB-A ports and it can be used with your USB-A to Lightning cable.

USB-A to USB-C

The USB-A to USB-C connector type is typically for Android devices, such as the Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy, and newer Apple devices like the iPad Pro.

You can plug USB-A to USB-C cables into the USB-A port on laptops and wall chargers to charge any USB-C devices.

For example, the charger that is shown in the image below has two USB-A ports and it can be used with your USB-A to USB-C cable.

USB-C to Lightning

This is a faster and upgraded version of the original Apple charging cable. The USB-C tip connects to any USB-C car chargers, wall chargers, or laptops to power your iPhone or AirPods.

To unlock PD fast-charging, all you need is a USB-C to Lightning or USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C PD-enabled power source.

If you have an iPhone 8 or newer phone, it is recommended to upgrade your charging cable and connect it to one of our PD chargers to take advantage of fast charging your phone. With our PD chargers and a USB-C to Lightning cable, you can charge your iPhone up to 50% in less than 30 minutes.

For example, the charger that is shown in the image below has a USB-C port and it can be used with your USB-C to Lightning cable.

USB-C to USB-C:

This is the cable you will need for all of your newest devices with the latest technology – New MacBook laptops, iPads, Samsung Galaxy phones, and Google Pixel phones.

Similar to the USB-C to Lightning cables, simply connect your USB-C to USB-C cable with any of our PD chargers (or any other power source with a USB-C port) to fast-charge your devices.

For example, the charger that is shown in the image below has a USB-C port and it can be used with your USB-C to USB-C cable.
